Governor Sandoval Reads to Students at Spread the Word Nevada's Adopted School

At the request of Spread the Word Nevada, a local children's literacy nonprofit group, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval flew in from Carson City on March 31 to read at  Cambeiro Elementary School. This was his last stop after visiting three other schools in Las Vegas, which concluded the governor's reading tour as part of Read Across America and Nevada Reading Month. During his first school visit in Reno on March 2 Sandoval signed a proclamation declaring March 2011 Nevada Reading Month.

At Cambeiro, Sandoval encouraged students to read and was inspired by their school pride. He also acknowledged the academic progress in literacy that the school achieved last year. He then read "Hooray for Diffendoofer Day!" written by Dr. Seuss and Jack Prelutsky. Sandoval talked to students about his background and his love for reading. In addition, he answered questions from students about his life and position as governor.

Primary Election Day Almost Here

Primary Election Day is almost here and Las Vegas city officials urge voters to take part.

On Tuesday, registered voters who live within the Las Vegas city limits will be able to vote for a number of races. All registered voters may vote for mayor and municipal judge for Departments 2, 3 and 5, while residents living in Wards 1, 3 and 5 can also vote for a City Council candidate who would represent their areas.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Absentee and mail ballots must be received by the City Clerk before 7 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.

Once polls close at 7 p.m., election results will be posted on the city's website, www.lasvegasnevada.gov, and on the city’s government access television station, KCLV Cable Channel 2.

Every vote counts because some seats may be decided in the Primary Election.

Cox On DEMAND Launches Election Info Area

In an effort to help voters understand more about the candidates for mayoral, city council and city ward races in Clark County during the upcoming election, Cox Communications-Las Vegas and Cox Media launched Elections 2011 On DEMAND.

The current election cycle involves candidates from Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas.

Elections 2011 On DEMAND provides the means for voters to view a two-minute, educational “candidate vignette” on its On DEMAND platform via Cox Channel 1. The company’s News and Public Affairs department is providing all candidates with an opportunity to speak frankly about their candidacy or any issues. However, as opposed to the more common 30-second political television spot, the On DEMAND vignettes may not contain references to other candidates or political campaigns.
