LAS VEGAS - A woman suffered critical injuries Wednesday morning after a vehicle struck her on northbound Rainbow Boulevard near Twain Avenue.

The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. Metro Police say Joan Freeman, 81, was attempting to cross the street when she was struck by a Mercedes driven by Curtis Shewbert, 36.  Freeman was not using a crosswalk.

Emergency crews took Freeman to University Medical Center.

The driver stayed at the scene. Police do not believe speed or alcohol were involved in the crash.

Police closed northbound Rainbow lanes for a few hours while they investigated.
