Transitional Home for Women and Kids in Danger of Closing

LAS VEGAS -- A transitional home that houses women and their children is fighting to stay open as it deals with dwindling funds.

The non-profit is called All About Kidz and it helps women who have drug issues and are in danger of losing their children to foster care. The agency gives the women and their children a place to call home while they get the treatment they need.

One young mother staying in the home says her downward spiral into drugs started when she was a newborn.

"I was heroin addicted when I was born. I ended up in foster care when I was 8 and adopted when I was 10," Jessica Marks said.

Marks was abandoned by her mother for drugs and she repeated the cycle when she gave birth as a teenager.

"At the age of 16, I started using drugs and prostituting. I was very much out there," Marks said.

Critic: I-NABA = Soba-licious

Restaurant critic John Curtas says a new Japanese restaurant offers great buckwheat noodles, otherwise known as soba, but it might be hard to find.

Favorite foodie friend Dr. Keita Sakon alerted us to the opening of this place yesterday, and, always on the lookout for pristine Japanese eats, we zeroed in on the location like a Zeke heading for the Ticonderoga. (Okay, maybe that’s not the best analogy, since those Zeros were trying to kill Anthony John (Cutsumpas) Curtas – 1926-2006 – the Official Father of ELV, but you get the idea.)
