Las Vegans of a certain age remember Wet 'n Wild as a favorite summer hangout on the Strip. The waterpark returns to the valley, at least in name, next year in the southwest part of the valley.
The name change was announced Thursday at an event hosted by Andre Agassi and the Howard Hughes Corporation, the primary investors in the project. The concept formerly was known as Splash Canyon and is scheduled to be completed in time for summer use next year. The park will feature 25 rides.
The previous iteration of Wet 'n Wild, which was located near the former Sahara on the Strip, operated for 20 years before closing in 2004. Announced plans for a hotel and casino on the property never materialized as the southern Nevada economy began to decline.
