If you regularly ride the bus in southern Nevada, pay attention because a new schedule goes into effect July 7.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) warns that customers may experience service delays.

The transit service changes include increased frequencies, later and/or earlier operating hours, schedule adjustments and modifications to the Boulder Highway Express (BHX), Henderson & Downtown Express (HDX), Route 212-Sunset Road and Route 402-Sunset/Boulder City. Boarding changes will take place on the Sahara Express (SX), BHX and HDX that will require passengers to board through the front door and pay or swipe their passes at the farebox.

Lane Reductions and Shifts Start for Cactus Avenue Interchange

Lane Reductions and Shifts Start for Cactus Avenue Interchange

Lane reductions and shifts will start next week along I-15 for construction of the Cactus Avenue interchange.

Starting Wednesday, May 29 through the end of the year, northbound I-15 will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes between the Silverado Ranch and St. Rose Parkway interchanges.

It is just the beginning of a series of lane shifts and reductions as a complete interchange is built connecting Cactus Avenue with I-15.

In June, southbound I-15 traffic will be shifted to the northbound side of the freeway, while crews create three southbound and two northbound lanes on the southbound side of the freeway. When that work is finished, traffic will be shifted to the southbound side.

The $62 million project is designed to relieve traffic congestion along the freeway and at the two nearby interchanges.

The project is expected to last 18 months.

Law enforcement agencies from around southern Nevada will be combining forces in hopes of making roads safer.

The Southern Nevada Traffic Task Force announced Tuesday plans for a saturated enforcement area along two stretches of freeway in the Las Vegas valley.

Officers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, Metro Police, North Las Vegas and Henderson Police will be out in force Wednesday, patrolling along U.S. 95 from the Spaghetti Bowl to Lake Mead Boulevard and along I-15 from Lake Mead Boulevard to Russell Road.

Officers will be looking for drivers who are following to closely, speeding, changing lanes unsafely, using a cell phone or driving while distracted.

"We are going to take on a zero tolerance mentality with all of our officers, which are going to be patrolling throughout this area, looking for the different violations which we have noted to be accident causing," NHP trooper Loy Hixson said.

New Traffic Light Turned on in Southern Highlands

New Traffic Light Turned on in Southern Highlands

A new traffic signal was put into operation in the southwest part of the Las Vegas valley Monday morning.

Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager was on hand to flip the switch at the intersection of Shinnecock Hills Avenue and Southern Highlands Parkway.

The intersection is near the Southern Highlands Boys and Girls Club, which is one of the reasons residents wanted the light installed.

"We have about a thousand children that come to the boys and girls club and every child's life is so important to us. We needed to make sure they had safe passage," Brager said.

Homeowners associations in the Southern Highlands community contributed money to help fund the new signal which assisted in getting it built quicker than most traffic lights.
