New 'bouldering' gym opens

A new facility caters to the rock climbing enthusiasts in the Las Vegas valley.

The Refuge, which is located at Valley View Blvd. and Sunset Road, is the first gym to open in 20 years in Las Vegas based on an activity known as bouldering, which is rock climbing without ropes or harnesses.

The owners say the gym is accessible to everyone not just people who like to climb.

“It is not quite as tall as what people traditionally think of for rock climbing. It's a little bit shorter. I kind of liken it to running in terms. It's almost like running a sprint versus running a marathon, just good fun fitness,” general manager Cody Hidler said

The gym also features a yoga studio, a children's top rope and birthday party area.
