This year is shaping up to be busy for local retail professionals, as malls fill in empty spaces vacated by stores that didn’t survive the recession and developers resume work on stalled projects.

Local Shoe Company Highlights New Town Square Openings

 

One of Las Vegas’ most popular shopping areas continues to expand, adding restaurants, a locally owned shoe store and a giant arcade.

Town Square plans to bring in GameWorks Las Vegas, McFadden’s Restaurant & Saloon, pediped footwear and Panda Express.

GameWorks will launch a new prototype entertainment center, Town Square officials said, which will feature lounge-like bowling, a laser tag arena and a tournament-ready, 100-seat LAN gaming center for online console and PC gaming.

Town Square will host its annual Hop & Shop Easter event Saturday.

The shopping area will host two free Easter egg hunt sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. During the sessions, hunts will be announced every 20 minutes.

Registration for the morning session starts at 8 a.m., with the hunts going on between 10 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. Registration for the afternoon session starts at noon, with hunts going on between 2 and 4:40 p.m.

Egg hunts will be limited to 80 kids per hunt. Kids will be divided by age group 1 to 3 years, 4 to 6 years and 7 to 10 years. Children should bring their own baskets to take home their treats.

The Easter Bunny will be on hand for photos. A portion of proceeds from the photos will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Two New Restaurants Coming to Town Square

 

Two new restaurants will be opening at Town Square shopping center in March.

Bonefish Grill is a free-standing location on the north side of the shopping center near Texas de Brazil. It specializes in fresh fish and wood-grilled menu items. The new restaurant is owned by the same company that owns Brio Tuscan Grille.

The second restaurant to come to Town Square is a long-time Las Vegas favorite. An outpost of Capriotti's Sandwich Shop will open on the second level above Double Helix Wine & Whiskey Lounge.

When these new restaurants open in March, Town Square will have 16 restaurant options.

End Zone: Zombie Apocalypse Store Doing Thriving Business

 

A store specializing in supplies to survive a zombie apocalypse, or any apocalypse for that matter, is doing a brisk business ahead of what some people have speculated will be the end of the world.

"Enjoy the end of the world!"

Kimmy, a bubbly, petite saleswoman at the Zombie Apocalypse Store, made sure to wish customers well on a weekday morning. After each group of customers paid for their purchases, she yelled farewells to those who made her store one of their last stops before the end of the Mayan calendar.

Holiday Kickoff Friday at Town Square

The holiday season kicks off Friday night at Town Square.

Santa Claus arrives at 7 p.m. to lead a parade through the shopping center to his Santa house in the park. Once he arrives at the park, he’ll light the 45-foot Christmas tree and snow will start to fall. Following the snow, children will be able to get their pictures taken with Santa.

Santa will be available for pictures November 17 through December 24. The hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. He takes breaks between 1 and 1:30 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, he takes a break from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

There will also be Snow in The Square, which is a nightly snow show at 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 and 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Each show lasts 10 minutes.

Wal-Mart Announces Plans for New Southwest Store

The world's largest retailer has plans to bring a new supercenter to the southwest part of the Las Vegas valley.

Wal-Mart announced plans to build a 150,000 square-foot store at Blue Diamond Road and Rainbow Boulevard.

The company says the new store will create 300 new jobs. There is no word yet on when the construction will start.

Wal-Mart has 10 supercenters around southern Nevada, including one a few miles away at Rainbow Boulevard and the southern beltway in the Arroyo Crossing shopping center.
