New Washers and Dryers Needed at No-Kill Shelter
The Nevada Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is looking for help to get a new washer and dryer. The three sets of machines they have at the shelter near Russell Road and Decatur Boulevard are not working as well as they need to.
The no-kill shelter cares for thousands of animals every day. They use sheets, blankets and towels to keep the animals comfortable, while they wait to be adopted. Volunteers do about 100 loads of laundry every single day.
“The reason why we are so hard on machines, besides the sheer quantity of laundry, we use a lot of bleach so we can keep down on disease. The bleach really tears up the washing machines,” volunteer Donna Stidham said.
The winter months are especially difficult because they are trying to keep the animals warm. Anyone interested in donating money towards the purchase of the machines can call 873-SPCA.
