Las Vegas Student Finalist in Google Doodle Contest | Parents & kids
A student at Southwest Career and Technical Academy is closer to having her artwork seen by hundreds of millions of people around the world.
Zhe Zhang is one of 50 finalists in the Doodle 4 Google contest. The online giant asked students kindergarten through 12 grade to redesign its logo based on the theme: My Best Day Ever. Zhang was selected out of 130,000 students from around the country.
People from around the world can vote for a winner by going to google.com/doodle4google.vote.html. The voting will take place now through May 10. There will be five finalists and one winner, which will be announced in an awards ceremony May 22.
The winner will have his or her artwork displayed on the Google homepage May 23, get a $30,000 college scholarship and earn a $50,000 technology grant for his or her school.
Even the students who do not win will be honored. The state winners, including Zhang, will have their work displayed at a special exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
