Driving You Crazy: Construction near Rainbow and Russell
News

LAS VEGAS - Marlene asks why there are so many traffic cones and blocked lanes near Russell Road and Rainbow Boulevard.

Subcontractors for the county are preparing Rainbow from Russell to Sunset Road for the Flamingo Diversion-Rainbow Branch Storm Drain project.

The county estimates it will cost the Regional Flood Control District $8 million. The project will improve storm drain capacity along Rainbow to prepare for 100-year flood flows like the ones valley residents saw last month.

Once finished, the drain will be able to transport 1,148 cubic feet of water per second from that stretch of Rainbow to the Flamingo Diversion Channel.

Construction starts next year. The preparation work that is going on now should finish by November 20.

Crews have also switched their work hours; they will work overnight from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
