Man charged with abuse after child had 'significant injuries'

LAS VEGAS -- A man has been charged with child abuse in connection with an incident where a child was found with serious injuries Monday afternoon.

Police announced Tuesday Anthony Castro was arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse with substantial bodily harm and a count of child abuse neglect. Castro is reportedly the child's mother's boyfriend.

According to police, at around 1:45 p.m. Monday dispatchers received a call about child abuse at an apartment in the 4200 block of Viking Avenue, which is near Arville Street and Flamingo Road.

When officers arrived, they found an injured child believed to be between 2 and 3 years old. The child had, what police describe, as significant injuries and was taken to University Medical Center in an unknown condition. However, police say the child is going to be okay.

Police said they found Castro a few blocks from the apartment complex along Flamingo Road.
