Fundraiser to be Held for Girl's Funeral Expenses

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A 6-year-old girl, identified by the coroner as Censere Mosly-Wedermyer, died after being run over while trying to get into her grandfather's car in southwest Las Vegas.

Police say the accident happened just after 3 p.m. Tuesday on Torino Avenue, west of Riley Street.

Authorities say the girl was standing just behind a Dodge Magnum when it started to drive away.

The child tried to get into the vehicle without the driver knowing, and was dragged for about 40 feet until the vehicle stopped. Police say the 52-year-old man is the girl's grandfather.

The girl was taken to University Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police say this is the 35th traffic-related death this year in Las Vegas police jurisdiction.

Groupe Car Club of Las Vegas will be holding a fundraiser carwash this Saturday from 9am to 5pm to help with the funeral expenses. The fundraiser will be at the Del Taco, 5915 W. Sahara Ave., near Burlington Coat Factory.

An account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank. To donate, specify the Censere Wedermyer Fund, Account No. 1259247011.

A memorial fund has also been set up by Judith Steele Elementary School and The Public Education Foundation. The fund will help support the creation of a Censere Mosly-Wedermyer Memorial at her school and to assist her family through this difficult time.
