Preppers Ready For Doomsday | News
LAS VEGAS -- According to the Mayan calendar, the world will end Friday.
Although many say it's just talk, there are a few doomsday preppers who said that regardless of whether the world ends Dec. 21, they'll be ready.
According to Mayan scholars, the world is expected to end in an apocalypse.
At the Zombie Apocalypse store in southwest Las Vegas, workers said they have been busier than ever helping people prepare for any disaster – including the end of the world.
Doomsday prepper Sam Good said that if he survives any apocalypse, he'll be ready.
"We have about a year's supply of food," Good said. "We have it in different forms, too."
Good said he stocks his garage with barrels of water and so-called bug-out bags, backpacks filled with supplies and stored near the door to grab-and-run on a moment's notice.
Sam said he gets together twice a month with friends to go over disaster preparedness. They call themselves the Las Vegas Preppers. They even have a class coming up on cooking with solar power, he said.
Across town, a man who said his name is Ebb, is also preparing for a cataclysmic event.
"I pretend, basically, that I live in tornado alley," he said.
Ebb said he not only has a year's supply to survive on, he's even sold bags filled with them and is nearly sold out.
Ebb and Good said they don't really know if Friday is the end of times, and some might call them paranoid.
"If you're ready, it's not a disaster," Good said. "It's just an event."
According to Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, everyone should have at least a three day supply of materials ready in case of an emergency, including food, water, first aid kits and flashlights.
