Teen Raises Money to Return Murdered Mother's Ashes to El Salvador

LAS VEGAS -- An overdue Christmas wish will come true for a young boy who lost his mother and baby sister to a domestic violence murder.

Elmer Torres wanted to take his mother's ashes to El Salvador. His mom and sister were brutally murdered in November. His only wish was to take them to their final resting place.

"That compassion and that humanity, they are aspects of human kind to want to make things possible," said Rebeca Ferreira with Safe Faith United.

Ferada Faiss Middle School collected more than $2,100 to make Elmer's wish come true. A private donor also gave another $1,000. Elmer will now be able make the trip and take his mother's and baby sister's ashes to El Salvador.

His mother, Veronica Erazo, was shot and his baby sister Sabrina was stabbed and killed. Police believe they died at the hands of Veronica's ex-boyfriend Jesse Saldivar. He was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Safe Faith says the money will go a long way in helping Elmer move on with his life.

"He will never forget what happened to his mother and his sister, but he's also never going to forget the kindness and generosity of the community toward him," said Ferreira.

Torres now lives in California with his dad and is doing well. He will make the trip to El Salvador in June with his father.
