Tarkanian, Barlow Retain Council Seats; Martinez, Coffin in Runoff

LAS VEGAS -- Two incumbent Las Vegas City Council members breezed to easy re-elections, while voters in one ward picked two contenders for a runoff to replace an outgoing council veteran.

Lois Tarkanian and Ricki Barlow each drew more than the 70 percent of Tuesday's municipal primary vote to win outright and return to the six-member council.

A seven-member race to replace term-limited Mayor Pro Tem Gary Reese was narrowed to former eight-term Democratic state lawmaker Bob Coffin and former state Democratic Party chief Adriana Martinez.

In the race to replace term-limited Mayor Oscar Goodman, his wife Carolyn Goodman and Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchiliani were the top vote-getters.

But Giunchiliani squeaked past County Commissioner Larry Brown by just 15 votes in unofficial results. Brown hasn't said if he'll seek a recount.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
