Sale of Land for Senior Housing Proposed

Low-income senior housing is the targeted focus of a parcel of land proposed for sale by the federal government in the southwest part of the valley.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is starting a 45-day public comment period on a proposal to sell five acres of public land to the State of Nevada Housing Division for affordable housing.

The parcel is located near the intersection of Agate Avenue and Kimo Street within the Las Vegas Boulevard and Interstate 15 corridor south of Blue Diamond Road.

The parcel is proposed for sale for an affordable housing community development for seniors and seniors with special needs whose income is less than 60 percent of the area median income and who are age 55 and above.

The parcel would be offered to the state at a discounted rate based on the fair market value, per provisions in the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act  The appraised fair market value for the parcel is $1,040,000. After applying a 95 percent discount authorized by SNPLMA, the proposed sale price is $52,000.

The comment period will end September 16. Written comments should be sent to the BLM Las Vegas Field Office, Assistant Field Manager, Division of Lands, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130.
