Cardboard Boat Regatta Returning to Desert Breeze Pool
Cardboard Boat Regatta Returning to Desert Breeze Pool

It is time for families to use their imaginations and work together to build a boat out of cardboard for the annual Cardboard Boat Regatta.

Desert Breeze Pool on Spring Mountain Road near Durango Drive is again hosting the night of fun from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 2. Prizes will be given out for the most creative, the Bismark and the fastest ship.

Families are encouraged to build boats using only cardboard and duct tape. Inflatable devices or buoyant additions will disqualify boaters from the regatta. Any extra material must only be used to decorate the boat.

Colored duct tape, ribbon, streamers, and permanent marker are all allowed. Boats can be no longer than 8 feet. Boat riders must be inside the boat during the race, life jackets will be provided.

For more information on the regatta rules, ask at the pool's cashier's desk or call (702) 455-7798 or visit the website at clarkcountynv.gov/parks.

The pool will also be open for families to swim that night. There will be water games and music from a DJ. People are welcome to bring picnic dinners and snacks. Alcohol and glass bottles are not permitted.
