Commissioners Plant Trees for Arbor Day

Clark County got a little greener when county commissioners helped the public celebrate Arbor Day by planting some new trees.

The trees were planted Friday morning at the Helen Meyer Community Center near Rainbow Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. Children from the Early Childhood Enrichment Program helped plant the trees. County Commissioner Susan Brager encouraged parents to use the trees planted at the park as a teaching tool.

“They can come by the Helen Meyer Park and say that was planted one year ago, five years ago, and 10 years ago,” Commissioner Brager said.

Next month the county will start taking an inventory of trees under its care. Crews will be cataloguing the types of trees, the condition they are in, where they are located, the size and age. They will also be looking for trees that might pose a hazard and make arrangement to bring them down. The inventory will also be used to come up with a comprehensive plan for managing and paying for the maintenance of the trees.
