The issue of rezoning several elementary and middle schools in the southwest part of the Las Vegas valley will go before the Board of School Trustees' Attendance Zone Advisory Commission Tuesday.

According to the AZAC agenda, members will discuss scenarios for changing attendance boundaries for Alamo, Fine, Frias, Ries and Steele elementary schools. The members may take action on boundary changes.

They will also talk about and possibly take action on changes to attendance boundaries for Canarelli, Faiss, Guinn, Sawyer and Tarkanian middle schools.

Last November, voters in southern Nevada voted down a tax increase that would have paid for building new schools to accommodate the influx of students. The Clark County School District is now struggling to make room for those students by moving attendance zone and changing some schools from nine-month schedules to year-around.

The attendance meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. at the district offices, 2832 East Flamingo Road. Public comment is encouraged.
