Pahrump Winery Hits 5-Year Mark
Business

PAHRUMP, Nev. -- Balancing the budget hasn't been a major issue for one Southern Nevada business. It's booming despite the recession.

Bill Loken and his wife, Gretchen, took a gamble back in 2005 and opened a winery in Pahrump even though they had no experience in the business. While they admit the recession was tough, they found ways to tighten their finances without laying off a single employee. They say sustaining their staff has made business better than ever. Already this year, they're on track to produce between 8,000 and 10,000 cases of wine.

"Business is up to levels that we haven't seen since before the recession hit and we're back to the grind again. We think the future's bright," said Bill Loken.

The couple has carved out a niche in Nevada. The Silver State is home to just a handful of wineries.
