A new company has opened its doors in a popular shopping area, creating more jobs and making Nevada more solar-friendly.

Clark County and state lawmakers joined Governor Brian Sandoval and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for the grand opening Wednesday of SolarCity's new call center in Town Square.

By the end of the year, it will employ 250 people. The company installs home solar panel systems in 14 states.

Nevada is not yet one of them, but SolarCity is working with lawmakers and state officials to change that.

"To think what is possible in Nevada, there is not a state in the union that is more capable of being energy independent than the state of Nevada. We have so much potential with the sun," Senator Reid said.

SolarCity is getting some tax payer money to help their business grow. If the company is able to add 800 jobs in the next three years, it will get $1.2 million from the Catalyst Business Fund.
