New $24M Smith's Marketplace in Henderson will create 275 jobs

HENDERSON, Nev. (KLAS) -- A new retail center is coming to Henderson. Smith's Food & Drug is building a multi-million dollar Smith's Marketplace to anchor the development.

The 31-acre commercial development will be at Cadence Village Center and will also feature several junior retailers and commercial pads. It will be located at Warm Springs Road and Lake Mead Parkway.

The new Smith's Marketplace will feature food, apparel, housewares, decor, hardware and gardening items. There will also be a Murray's Cheese Shop, Starbucks kiosk, Pizza Romana Station, freshly made sushi, floral department, Raider's and Knight's sport apparel, slot machines, a wine and beer tasting station, pharmacy and gas station.

"We are very excited to welcome Smiths Marketplace into our community," said Debra March, Henderson city mayor. "We are confident that residents in nearby neighborhoods and in surrounding communities will welcome the expanded shopping opportunities that Smith's and others are bringing to the Cadence community."

8 News Now spoke with residents who shared their thoughts on the news.

"Love it and can't wait," said Sal Spada. "We've been waiting for it, and we keep hearing about it. We didn't think it would happen, but it finally it's on its way."

Tyler Todt shared, "We heard it is going to be multi-leveled, so you can maybe dine in there, and it will employ a lot of people and bring a good amount of people into the neighborhood."

The store will also feature 40,000 items that can be ordered online for pickup.

"I'm actually excited. In order for us to go to the store, we have to drive like three miles away from our house," said Juan Godinez, "and right here, we can pretty much walk to it."

On the flip side, though, some residents are worried about the amount of people it will bring.

"Me personally, I'm a little bit worried about the traffic," said Hannah Gresham. "There's going to be a lot of people here with their cars, and we already have a speeding problem in the neighborhood."

The store is expected to be completed in November 2021.
