Actor makes things look easy in one-man show 'Thom Pain'

"Thom Pain (based on nothing)" wins a rave review!

I hesitate to call Shane Cullum's performance in the one-person Las Vegas Little Theatre studio show "Thom Pain (based on nothing)" great, not because it isn't, but because the word may be misleading.

Record Number of Empty Homes in Nevada

LAS VEGAS -- Nevada's building boom over the last decade has ended in a record number of empty homes.

Newly released Census data shows nearly 168,000 empty houses in the state last year, more than double the number in 2000. In all, the number of vacant homes represents about one out of every seven houses across Nevada.

The data suggests the housing crash forced many Nevadans from their homes. More than 16 percent of Nevadans relocated to other residences within the state in 2008 alone, the highest mobility rate in the nation.

The state also had the highest foreclosure rate in the country in January, and delinquent mortgages are on the rise. The jobless rate is 14.2 percent, and the state's estimated budget gap starts at $1.5 billion.

During the "Feed a Pig, Help a Senior" PIG-OUT, people are encouraged to empty their piggy banks, or adopt one in the race seen at http://www.piggy4seniors.org/. All attendees who donate to one of the racing piggy banks will be given 5% off all food and drink orders, with Cheeburger Cheeburger donating 15% of the evening's proceeds HHOVV.

Helldorado Parade entries being accepted

It's not too early to plan your entry for the 2011 Helldorado Parade. The 2011 parade is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. There is no fee to enter and the City of Las Vegas will be accepting the first 120 entries now through April 25.

Thousands of people line the downtown parade route every year, and the parade is also broadcast live by Cox Communications on cable channel 96 and streamed online at http://www.cox96.net/. KCLV Channel 2 will re-broadcast the parade in the following days. A fireworks show will be launched from the Fremont Street Experience parking garage immediately after the parade.

The city's annual Hellorado Days festivities are a tribute to the anniversary of the city of Las Vegas. This year marks the city's 106th anniversary of the founding of Las Vegas. Entrants are encouraged to consider these Western roots when planning their parade applications.
