Man killed during dispute, suspect on the loose

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)-- Metro police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Saturday.

Police responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 12:58 a.m in the 4600 block of West Drake Circle, near Eldon street and Spring Mountain Rd.

Police believe that the victim arrived in the area to meet with another person about an ongoing dispute. At some point during the encounter, a suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim multiple times. The victim died at the scene.

The suspect fled the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.

The identification of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office... Read More

Motorcyclists hurt following overnight crash, driver arrested on DUI charge

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)-- Metro police are investigating a serious crashing that leaves two motorcyclists critically hurt Saturday morning.

Police responded to a call shortly before 2 a.m., for two motorcyclists who were struck near East Cheyenne Avenue and North Lamb Boulevard.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a silver 2017 Dodge Durango ran a red light and struck a 2015 Harley Davidson before driving away.

A male driver, 36, and a woman passenger, 40, sustained critical injuries as a result of the crash and were transported to UMC Trauma for treatment.

The driver of the Dodge, Javier Hernandez, 28, was later taken into custody by police nearby.

He was charged with driving under the influence resulting in substantial bodily harm, two counts of duty to stop at the scene of an accident involving injury, and two counts of failing to abide by red lights.

Plant-based fast food restaurant opens in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)-- A California plant-based fast-food chain, one its first location here in the northwest part of the valley Friday.

Planet Power Fast Food opened at 7090 W. Craig Road, near U.S. 95. The restaurant uses 100% plant-based ingredients.

Las Vegas Commissioner Ross Miller made an appearance, welcoming Plant Power to Las Vegas with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday with the restaurant’s co-founders Zach Vouga and Jeffrey Harris.

“It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come in establishing a wide variety of food options in the Las Vegas community,” said Commissioner Miller, “I’m already looking forward to my next visit to Plant Power Fast Food!”

CCFD holds fire training in South Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)-- A fire Saturday morning in the southwest part of the valley, promoted calls into the 8 News Now newsroom. According to Clark County Fire Department, crews are conducting a live-fire training session and there's nothing to worry about.

Officials say firefighters are conducting live fire training throughout Saturday at 3930 West Frias Avenue, near West Frias Avenue and South Valley View Boulevard.

There will be multiple fires set and filmed in a detached garage and main house. The house and garage will be burned to the ground at the conclusion of filming.

Ghost Hunting 101 workshop kicks-off countdown to Halloween

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Halloween may still be a few weeks away, but for some, gaining a grasp on ghost hunting skills has already begun.

On Friday, Whitney Recreation Center hosted a special night for those interested in seeking out spooky spirits as beginner ghost hunters all for the price of $1.

Those in attendance learned how to decipher false positives, the basics of paranormal investigating, safety protocols, correct usage of equipment, and materials.

LVMPD Foundation hosts community Howl-O-Ween parade

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A spooky night of fun for the community and the loveable pooches in our lives is set to get underway on Sunday, Oct. 17.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation is hosting the first annual Howl-O-Ween Dog parade and brunch.

Dogs and their humans are encouraged to come in their Halloween costumes and celebrate the launch of the foundation's 2022 calendar.

Proceeds from the registration of the dog parade will go directly to support the lifelong care of retired and active LVMPD K-9 officers.

Top dogs will win exciting prizes at the spooky event.
